Biography
Roderic
von Bennigsen, a musician of international standing, hails from an old European
family whose members have included statesmen, generals and artists. His artistic
development was influenced from his earliest youth by great teachers such as Pablo
Casals and Pierre Fournier. He completed his wide-randing musical education by
studying in Paris and Vienna under the legendary Nadia Boulanger, André Navarra
and Prof. Hans Swarovsky. He played his first solo cello concerto with orchestra
at the age of twelve. Since then he has performed in many great musical centres
including Paris, London, Vienna, New York (Carnegie Hall), St. Petersburg, Berlin,
Brussels, Rom and Munich. Among the leading orchestras he has conducted are London´s
Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Russian National Orchestra, the Symphonia Varsovia,
the St. Petersburg Symphony Orchestra, the Czech Philharmonic, the Berlin Philharmonic
Ensemble and the Berliner Symphoniker. Awarded the United Nations Medal of Honour
for his cultural activities, he gave peace concerts in Dubrovnik during the war
in Yugoslavia under the auspices of the International Humanitas Association, which
he founded. He is also the founder of the celebrated Bennigsen Festival, held
annually since 1995 in North Germany. Radio and television programmes have documented
his artistic versatility, which has won widespread acclaim in the national and
international press.
